Discord Font Generator

Two ways to style Discord text: markdown that Discord formats for you, and Unicode styles you paste in.

This generator runs in your browser and needs JavaScript. Please turn JavaScript on and reload the page. Nothing you type is sent to a server.

About this tool

Discord has its own text formatting called markdown: wrap text in two asterisks for bold, one for italic, two underscores for underline, two tildes for strikethrough and two vertical bars for a spoiler. The top part of this page applies those markers for you. Pasting the result into Discord formats it, and the characters stay normal letters, which is better for search and screen readers.

The second section gives Unicode styles such as script or double-struck. They are separate characters and work where markdown does not, for example in some name fields. Discord messages have a 2,000-character limit for most users, so the tool checks your message against that number. Server nicknames use a shorter limit, so check the field in Discord.

How to use the discord font generator

  1. Type your message.
  2. Tick the formatting you want: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, spoiler or inline code.
  3. Copy the Discord message and paste it into a channel.
  4. Or scroll to the Unicode styles and copy one if you want a different look.

Examples

Markdown markers you can type yourself:

  • **bold**
  • *italic*
  • __underline__
  • ~~strikethrough~~
  • ||spoiler||
  • `inline code`

Good uses

  • Emphasizing rules, announcements and event details in servers.
  • Hiding plot details with spoilers.
  • Showing commands or short code with inline code.
  • Decorative names where Unicode is allowed.

Compatibility and limits

Markdown only works in Discord and similar apps. If you paste the markers into a website, you will see the asterisks. Unicode styles work more widely but may appear as boxes on devices without the right font. Discord can change its formatting features, so test in your own server first.

Text made with Unicode characters can be hard for screen readers to read and may not match searches for the original words. Keep names, links and important details in plain text.

Frequently asked questions

Is markdown better than Unicode fonts on Discord?

Usually yes for messages: it keeps real letters. Unicode styles are mainly useful for names and decoration.

Can I combine markdown options?

Yes. Tick several boxes, and the tool nests the markers. Discord may not render every combination in the same way, so check the preview in Discord.

Does Discord limit nicknames?

Yes, nicknames have a smaller limit than messages. Check the field when you edit it.
