About this tool

Unicode contains thousands of symbols outside the alphabet: stars, hearts, arrows, math signs, music notes and box-drawing lines. This page groups more than 120 of the most popular into nine sets. Click any symbol and it is inserted into your text box at the cursor. The box doubles as the place where you build your final line.

Below the symbol sets are nine decorated versions of whatever you have typed, such as sparkles on both sides or ornamental brackets. The generated text keeps every symbol as an editable character, so you can delete or replace parts in your app after pasting.

How to use the unicode symbol text generator

  1. Type your words in the text box.
  2. Click symbols from the sets to add them at the cursor position.
  3. Press Copy text box to copy your composed line, or copy one of the decorated versions.
  4. Paste it and check that each symbol displays properly.

Examples

The tool offers nine groups: stars and sparkles, hearts, arrows, brackets and frames, bullets and shapes, math and logic, music and weather, check and cross marks, and dividers.

Good uses

  • Decorating profile bios and headings.
  • Making bullet lists in plain text.
  • Dividers between sections of a message.
  • Check and cross marks in status updates.

Compatibility and limits

Symbols come from many Unicode blocks and fonts, so some may be drawn as colorful emoji and others as plain outlines, depending on the device. Rare symbols may appear as boxes on older systems. Pick common ones for wide support.

Text made with Unicode characters can be hard for screen readers to read and may not match searches for the original words. Keep names, links and important details in plain text.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some symbols turn into emoji?

Some characters have both a text and an emoji look. Devices choose one, usually the emoji, if available.

Can I use symbols in usernames?

Only where the platform permits them. Many usernames allow only letters, numbers and a few punctuation marks.

How do I find more symbols?

Each operating system has a symbol picker, which the copy and paste guide explains.
