About this tool
Letter-spacing is normally a typography setting, so plain text boxes do not offer it. The workaround is to place characters between the letters. This page inserts one of seven separators: an ordinary space, a middle dot, a dash, a bullet, a vertical bar, an em space or a hair space.
Em space and hair space are real Unicode characters of different widths. An em space is about as wide as the font size, so it creates a very airy line. A hair space is the thinnest standard space, so it widens a word only slightly. Words are joined by the same separator, so the gap between words looks bigger than the gap between letters.
How to use the spaced text generator
- Type your text.
- Look through the seven spacing styles and choose one.
- Copy the result.
- Paste it and view it at the size people will see it, since light spacing can disappear on small screens.

- Slow, dramatic emphasis.
- Separating the letters of a name for a design effect.
- Simple dividers such as a-b-c.
Compatibility and limits
Some apps trim or collapse spaces, which can undo spacing made from ordinary spaces. Dots, dashes and bars are never trimmed, so they are the safest choice. Spaced text roughly doubles the length, which matters for character limits.
Text made with Unicode characters can be hard for screen readers to read and may not match searches for the original words. Keep names, links and important details in plain text.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my spaces disappear after pasting?
Some apps collapse repeated spaces. Try the em space, the hair space or a visible separator such as a dot.
Does it affect search or readability?
Yes. Spaced letters are read as separate characters by many tools, so use it for decoration, not for important words.
How is this different from wide text?
Spaced text keeps normal letters. Wide text changes the letters themselves to full-width forms.
