About this tool
This tool adds Unicode combining marks after each letter. The combining low line (U+0332) draws a single underline, the combining double low line (U+0333) draws two, and the combining overline (U+0305) draws a line above the text. Because each letter carries its own mark, the lines join into one continuous line in most fonts.
Two results combine the underline with bold or italic Unicode letters. Underline in plain text is often used for emphasis or to suggest a link, but remember that real links are blue and underlined for a reason: readers may expect underlined text to be clickable, so use it carefully.

Good uses

Compatibility and limits
The lines can break between letters in some fonts, and descenders on g, j, p, q and y may be crossed by the line. Some apps drop combining marks entirely. If Discord is your target, its own markdown, __text__, is a better choice.
Text made with Unicode characters can be hard for screen readers to read and may not match searches for the original words. Keep names, links and important details in plain text.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the underline cut through some letters?
Letters with descenders, such as g or y, extend below the baseline where the line is drawn.
Can I underline emoji?
The marks attach to emoji too, but the result is often odd. It is best left for letters and numbers.
Will underlined text look like a link?
It might. Readers may try to click it, so avoid underlining text that is not a link in places where links appear.
