About this tool

True upside-down text would need every letter rotated by 180 degrees, but Unicode has no rotation mark. Instead the tool swaps each letter for a character that looks like that letter turned upside down: a becomes ɐ, e becomes ǝ, and the question mark becomes an inverted question mark. It then reverses the order of the letters so the line reads naturally from the right when you turn it around.

A few letters have no exact match, so the nearest look-alike is used. Some capitals, like Q or K, are approximations. The second result flips letters without reversing the order, and the third just reverses the order without changing letters. Text outside basic Latin, such as emoji, is left unchanged, but reversing keeps emoji intact.

How to use the upside down text generator

  1. Type your text.
  2. Compare the three results: flipped and reversed, flipped only, and reversed only.
  3. Copy the first result for the classic upside-down look.
  4. Paste it, then rotate your phone or head to check the effect.

Compatibility and limits

Rotated look-alikes come from several Unicode blocks including IPA extensions and mathematical symbols. Some fonts draw them at slightly different heights, so the baseline looks wobbly. Rare characters may show as boxes on older systems.

Text made with Unicode characters can be hard for screen readers to read and may not match searches for the original words. Keep names, links and important details in plain text.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some letters look wrong?

There is no perfect upside-down form for every letter. The closest available look-alike is used.

Does it work with numbers and punctuation?

Digits and many punctuation marks are mapped, including ! and ?. Characters without a flipped version stay as they are.

What is the difference from the text reverser?

The text reverser only reverses order and offers word and line options, but does not flip the letters.
